About The Weaver

My name is Rachel Beckman. I’m a twenty-something weaver with a knack for storytelling. Most of my weavings come from stories, or else they become stories themselves.

I have always had a passion for learning and self-education. I love history, anthropology, epidemics, and above all, books. In addition to being a weaver I write short stories, and sometimes poetry. Music moves me, so from time to time I sit down at the piano and play a bit (though since I stopped taking lessons I’m pretty much limited to Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor and Christmas songs). One day I will find the time to learn new material again.

I am currently living in the wonderful city called Baltimore while I attend the Maryland Institute College of Art and delight in my job at the campus library. I choose art school over liberal arts because I didn’t want to take college math, and that’s probably half true.

The piece at left is called “Self-Portrait with Goat on Head.” I think we all feel a little bit like that sometimes.

I love what I do, and I hope maybe you’ll love it too. Feel free to e-mail me with questions or comments, and look soon for information about commissions.
