The Bareback Rider
Handwoven cloth, braiding, beading, digital print on bamboo twill

For my thesis I am focusing my historical research and response to the circus at the turn of the century and the effects of industrialization and Victorian society on the readings of the female circus performer in the context of the spectacle (idealization and scandal). My interest is centered around the body of the performer, how the body is viewed, and the idea of envy surrounding the feats of the body found in the circus. There is a solemnity to the narrative that comes from my own body standing in for the performer and my own struggle with body image and beauty.

Summer Love

There’s a lot going on at the moment, between summer cleaning, locating my loom under a pile of mother-donated fabric, and a million projects that are blooming in my mind. Not a lot to update with currently, so I leave you for now with some of my favorite shots from the annual Pungo Strawberry Festival.
